STB Winter Clinics Coaching partnership with Post University Head Coach Ray Ricker!
Ray Ricker enters his third year as Post University head baseball coach in 2016-17. In his first season, he led the Eagles to a second-place finish in the CACC with a 21-18 overall record and a 15-15 conference record, the most CACC wins in program history. Ricker also mentored Post's first MLB Draft pick in pitcher Mike Costello who was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in 2015.
Prior to his time in charge, Ricker spent seven years as Associate Head Coach and Lead Assistant for the Eagles Under his leadership, the program has reached record setting heights as the 2009 team led the CACC in hitting for the second consecutive year with a .312 clip following up their .278 batting average in 2008. The .312 batting average was good for the 3rd highest in the history of Post Baseball. The 2009 squad also led all of Division II in triples with 29.
In his seven years, he has coached 13 hitters who have been named to All-Conference teams, and four hitters who have been recognized for All-Region distinction. Of the Top 10 single season leaders in hits, seven of those hitters were coached by Ricker.
Aside for his position within the Post Baseball Program, Ricker has been prominent in summer ball as he has coached in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League. He was most recently the hitting coach for the Bourn Braves and mentored the 2013 CCBL MVP and 11th overall pick in the 2014 MLB Draft. Prior to that he was the Field Manager for the New Bedford Bay Sox and was an Assistant with them in 2009.
Ricker played collegiately at the University of Bridgeport before finishing up his career at Albertus Magnus College. While at Albertus Magnus, he helped the team to a GNAC Conference Championship and a NCAA New England Regional. During his senior year, Ricker was named team captain and played every game behind the plate, finishing the season ranked #9 in Division III in doubles. He batted.367 with a .595 slugging percentage and a .490 on base percentage during that year.
